Ming completed his Bachelor's degree from Nanjing Teacher's University in 1987, where he studied the di-zi with Mr. Ke-Ren Lin and received the People's Scholarship for four years. From 1988 to 1990, he studied with Dr. Hal Ott at Central Washington University, earning his Master of Music Degree in Flute Performance. From 1990 to 1995, he studied with Mr. Charles DeLaney at The Florida State University, pursuing his Doctor of Music degree in Flute Performance. His honors include the third place in the prestigious Chinese Instrumental Competition in Shanghai in 1987; and full scholarship to study with Mr. Julius Baker, Mr. Ervin Monroe, and Dr. John Barcellona at California State University Summer Arts in 1995. He gave a one-hour presentation on the topic of The Sound of China, introduced di-zi to the National Flute Convention in Orlando in August 1995.
